events that took place in february...

Ok, so I'm just now getting to the pictures I took in February. There's actually a few more, but not on my camera, so I don't know that my birthday or other important events will ever be documented on this post , sorry. I did record Matthan's first feeding, but that is in video form, and to keep this page from taking forever to show up, I'll put that in another post. I feel kind of sad that I didn't blog for the whole month, especially when one of those days was the last birthday I'll have for another 4 years. Oh well. Here's a little proof that I did do a thing or two last month, though (not at all in order... these first pics were from a two day trip to Rome on the 24th and 25th)

4 reasons to miss Rome: cool landmarks, pretty buildings, and the best Chili's ever (that just got a remodel--isn't it fancy?)
And of course, Granny : )

Aubie and a shot of the new red tiled tables at Chili's (these are nice, but I miss the old blue ones)

Despite all the time in his car seat those 2 days, he still managed to keep a smile on his face :)

Our annual Christmas get-together got postponed until January due to my new baby and expected bad weather. Then it was postponed till February due to snow (that seems to come more often now that I don't live up there. When I lived there, folks around here got snow. I think it hates me). Oh well. Maybe this year we'll celebrate Christmas together.

Matthan, so excited to see tiny Joelle. Aunt Dinah smiling for the camera.

Don't worry, (Mom).Matthan's not hurting her. He just had reached to touch her face as David snapped the picture.

The only picture I got of Margo with her eyes open, and its blury. She was so adorable, but I had trouble photographing the busy little thing : )

Joelle and Hannah (and her doesn't-even-look-like-she-just-had-a-baby self)
Levy pictures... how long has it been since I had some of those? These are Aubie, Lorna, and Lorna' s cousin Phoebe.

Sometime toward the end of the month, I made another quilt for a shower gift. I finished it at 8:59--the shower ended at 9:00. Well, at least I finished!

Just another ordinary day that I took pictures of something out-of-the-ordinary in an attempt to make myself post something on my blog. Aubie loved her star sandwich.

Cute Matthan pics. Looks like he's posing in both of them--the first one as a 193o's movie star.

I read Snow White to Aubie and Matthan listened intently. By the look he has in the second picture, you'd think he could see through the book to the page I'm reading (I think Snow White's witch is the scariest one too, Matthan).

This is one of his normal funny expressions--not sure what day it is, but it was in February.

Valentine's Day. Aubie made a mobile for a Cubbies project. Instead of the tacky hearts-on-a-clothes-hanger idea they suggested, we did a "green" project and made another use for a plastic Folgers lid.

I made Aubie a bag from some cute Valentine fabric from Aunt Evelyn.

I bought some new baby oil, and when I tried looking at David across the room through it, he told me how freaky my eyes looked. Boy did they ever!

Matthan's first feeding post will probably be the next one, then Events That Took Place in March, then the meme that Heather challenged me to, then hopefully I'll find a way to get back on track with all this. I know I've promised it before, though, so we'll see.

At this stage, where everything he learns is from those he's with the most, you'd be surprised at how well he does this (in other words, based on my behavior lately, he didn't learn it from me):

Now that January's almost over...

I posted this pictures in order of how they happened. Problem is, when you do that, the old ones are at the bottom and the new ones at the top. So, if you want to read this in chronological order, start at the bottom. If you don't give a rip, start anywhere you like. By the way, I started this post on the date above (January 19th), but just now have finished it (on January 30th). Sorry. I'm really going to try to start scheduling time to blog, instead of making it one of my "round to-its".

About a week ago, Aubie woke up and wanted to hold Matthan, so while she was still on her bed, I let her. She said, "This make a good picture." I thought it did too, so I got the camera.
And since Matthan was in such a good mood, I got a few of him by himself. Hasn't he gotten big?

We left our tree up till Epiphany and then some. But it was good that we kept it up so long, because Dorenda surprised us with a visit the weekend after Epiphany.

Ma got this outfit discounted after Christmas at Target. I wanted to get some pictures of my adorable Santa-baby.

As soon as Christmas was over, I started work on this quilt for Renee's new baby, Wendy. My deadline was Thursday, January 3 at 6:30 pm (I just did make it!) I had all the ladies at church donate a piece of fabric (it was the holiday season, so some folks didn't get to me in time) to put in the quilt. I had to piece the back (normally just one fabric) so I could make better use of the donated fabrics. I missed the New Year's party working on it, else I'd be displaying pics of our costumes, too. But one can only do so much crafting at the holidays, especially with a new baby. So we had a peaceful New Year's at home watching Meet the Robinsons (I didn't really watch I just listened--I was busy cutting squares), then watching the ball drop. (I know they're small, so if you click on the quilt pictures, you'll be able to see the details.)

These two are pictures from Christmas Eve at Ma's. We had a lot of fun.

Aubie got one of her favorite movies from MarMar--The Happiest Millionaire. I'm going to have to record a clip of her singing "Detroit" from the movie. Her little voice is so adorable.

I drew Aunt Karen's name for our Christmas in Atlanta drawing. So I made a quilt for her out of one of Mimi's old skirts. It turned out really nice, I think.

The skirt, the quilt, and a close up of the quilt and card that I made to match.

a month and a day

Sorry folks. (It was actually longer than a month and a day, because I never even posted this until 10/09/08. All that was here was "sorry folks.")

no glasses for santa

This morning, David offered to take care of Aubie while I slept a bit longer since Matthan was asleep. It didn't last very long--Matthan woke up about 15 minutes later (15 minutes before time for him to eat). Anyway, when I got up to feed Matthan, I didn't see Aubie anywhere. So I went to her room where I thought I heard something and she was crying. After much begging, pleading, you're-gonna-get-a-spanking-if-you-don't-tell-Mommy-what's-wrong-ing, and of course hearing David's side of the story, I finally found out that he had put the wrong movie in for her to watch. He was trying to let her watch a movie that she would really like, so he put in Strawberry Shortcake. But she pitched a fit, so he turned the TV off. So after quite some time, Aubie said, "Remember that movie that we watch?"
I wasn't sure which one she was talking about, so I said, "Which one?"
"The girl say, 'That Santa don't got glasses.' "
Can you guess what movie she's talking about? I knew right away, but David, having watched it for the first time last night, would probably never have guessed what movie it was. I'm sure that's why she got so frustrated.
I'll see if anyone tries to guess before I give the answer.
Hint: Its black and white. My child chose a black and white movie over a color cartoon! Yes! Other hint: The real line is, "... Santa Claus. He's Much better than last year's. At least this one doesn't wear glasses."

hey rudolf!

What better way to celebrate the holidays than a Rudolf tattoo? No, its not real : ) Just the reminder I drew to help me remember to watch Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer on Tuesday night with Aubie. Sad thing was, her poor sleep-deprived mother ended up falling asleep. Aubie woke me up every time the Abominable Snow Man was acting ugly (he scared her a bit), but other than that, I missed the whole thing. This is the first year that I have actually remembered to watch a classic when it came on, and I ended up missing it again. I am going to try my best to remember to watch Frosty tomorrow night, and try even harder to stay awake : )

artwork and olives and a few other things...

This post was actually started on the day that it says, but it's December 3rd and just now finishing it : (

I don't think she's singing to him here, though that is what it looks like. I like to imagine that she is though. It makes for such a sweet picture.

This picture is so weird. Leah thinks he looks adorable in it, but I think he doesn't look like himself at all. He's cute, but it doesn't look like Matthan.

Aubie loves olives. Her Daddy and her Granny both hate them. I'm happy she took after our side of the family--olives are my favorite!

I love the color scheme in this picture. It is so Fall-y. But kind of Christmas-y in a way too. Its almost like the transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

This is the best person that Aubie has ever drawn and the first complete one, I think. That little circle at the bottom started out being a person, but it looked like a lemon. So Aubie showed me the lemon. Then she said, "It's a lemon peepee." Of course, I laughed. And then said, "We don't need to draw bodily functions, though, Aubie." Obviously not understanding the word function, she shouted, "IT not a punkin!"

Another funny conversation in the same night:
David asked Aubie, "What about Wady Bogo*?"
Aubie: "Hers not a friend. Her fired. My Grandma say, ' You fire dat friend NOW!' "
David: "Who fired her?"
Aubie" "Da Firemen."
*Wady Bogo (rhymes with Lady GoGo) was one of Aubie's first made up names for an imaginary friend. It was at least a year ago that she said, "Wady Bogo. Dat's my new friend."

Hey, if you haven't seen the video below this post, check it out. It is so sweet.

Thanksgiving

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Ours was so good. We went to Aunt Karen and Uncle Steve's house--truly the perfect Thanksgiving house. I'm not sure how it looks the rest of the year (except Christmas), but it is a lovely house for celebrating Thanksgiving. It was so nice being with family, and we really enjoyed meeting Corey and Garrett's girlfriends. They were both so nice.
Well, I'll start by explaining this tiny picture here. It was stolen from Aunt Karen. I had plans to get pictures of the four of us wearing our shades-of-brown corduroy, but I never asked anyone to do it and before I got around to it, Matthan needed to completely change clothes. So here it is, our one family shot--Matthan in his jammies, screaming his head off, and look. My cords aren't even visible.

Garrett holding Matthan for the first time.

Corey and Kat and the Cranberry Catastrophe (ok, so it wasn't a catastrophe, it was just quite hard to get the upsidedown--or whatever it's problem was--can open)

Don't click on this one, and you won't see how badly I focused ; )

Matthan, before his overalls were no longer photographable.

Bobby Wayne, Garrett, and Chelsea.

Another picture stolen from Aunt Karen's Picasa album. I was so happy it let me take the pictures--I had no idea they'd be practically invisible.

P.S. I am sorry that the words and pictures are always so funky and never correctly placed. They are when I type a post, but once it's published, it goes all wonky. I have tried and tried every way I know how to fix it, but it just won't do. Perhaps it adds to the quirkiness of the Saige Page, but I would rather that it didn't happen.

sentimental

"He definitely looks like PaPa when he's asleep", I thought. And for a split second--no, not even that long, maybe just a sudden thought--I wanted to call Mimi and tell her. But I couldn't.

one month

Notice the date--this post was started yesterday : )
Its hard to believe he's been here a whole month. At 2:18 this morning, Matthan turned one month old. He is growing so fast. And although he's getting heavier, I'm getting excited that he's getting bigger. He's smiled at me twice, but that was only under the perfect circumstances (just been fed, changed, and in a good mood). I am so looking forward to smiles "just because", not just perfect circumstances smiles. He's so adorable--I can't wait to see if that dimple that sometimes appears will show up when he smiles (I was so happy he was smiling, that I forgot to look at the dimple).

Lest you think that this will turn into a Matthan blog and you will never here about Aubie anymore, I'll tell you an interesting fact about her. Aubie's favorite show is Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
She especially loves the part of the show where they say, "Bus Driver, Move that bus!" But really, she loves the whole thing--how they help people, how I cry every time, how loud and obnoxious (but funny) Ty is. I think her favorite part is that we all watch it together as a family and though I am the only one crying, that we all are so uplifted by seeing these needy families being so touched.
Oh, and an Aubie quote for you : yesterday, when I was really down about something, I just sighed and said, "What am I going to do?" Aubie said, "Just bewax, Mommy. Just bewax."

saturday, sunday, tuesday, wednesday

No, I haven't gotten confused on the lines from The Godfather via You've Got Mail in my title. That's just the days that are featured in this post.

Well, yesterday (Tuesday), we went to the pumpkin patch with Renee and her kids. We had fun, but I think Renee got much better pics than I did. As you can see from these first two--Matthan is saying, "No pictures please!" and , "Maybe if I just hide behind these overalls..." Aubie was completely distracted by all the other children, so a smile was pretty much impossible. Plus the poor dear was concentrating so hard on holding Matthan, I think.

Since Aubie doesn't ever look at the camera anymore, I just try to make sure she's in a pretty pose. I thought this one with the pumpkins looked cool.

Here she is as an ear of corn, a pumkin seed advertisement, and a sunflower with her friend Jill.

Daniel got his pumpkin painted on his face, while the girls had their's painted on their hands. I believe the pumpkin he's holding is the one he ended up with. He was so cute continually exchanging pumpkins until he found the tiniest one possible.

The sleeping picture is from Saturday, and the adorable awake picture is from Sunday. I am really wanting to compare his hairline in these to pictures, although the untrained eye wouldn't see much. Anyway, the boy is growing so fast. His hairline has already moved back an inch or so since this picture. It's like overnight his head grew 2 inches or something.

And this is my Wednesday picture. Aubie went with Leah and Mom to Leah's church for their fall festival. "Friendly costumes are welcome", so I let her wear her princess dress that Mom made her this past Christmas. She looked so pretty when she left. She'll probably have cotton candy and chocolate and all that mess all over her when she gets home, but she'll still be my little princess : )

missing thought

Yes, its been a while, but you have to admit I have a good excuse this time (I am typing one-handed at this very moment). As always happens with new babies (I had proof of this at church this morning), people suddenly become more interested in you. But...
Who knows what my next thought was? The world may never know. I know I sure don't.--10/09/08

my first video

For the past year, Aubie has loved to pick Bahaya? grass and eat it. Last summer, when I first noticed that she was eating some, I asked, "Where did you learn to do that?" She said, "Daniel tell me [to] eat grass." Since that time, every time she sees some, she has to pick it and eat it. Sometimes, she picks two and hands me one.
Her latest thing is wanting to go to China--thus the China question. The girl loves China! Just to see what she'd say, I told her as we passed the Dollar Tree, "You see that store? There's a lot of things in that store that are
made in China*." Her response, "Oh, Mommy. I wanna go there!" When I explained to her that the things were just normal American looking things, not really Chinese things, she said, "Mommy, I just kiddling." If it had actually been a store full of Chinese kites, dragons, lanterns, etc., I would have had to stop the car and take her inside. *I personally love China, Chinese decor, Chinese people, and I like Chinese food, but have taken a stance against buying goods made in China. I still do it occasionally, but I am trying my best not to support a system that has people working 18 hours a day, making 3 cents an hour, just so I can get something for 99 cents. It's a moral issue in my opinion.

what's up with the videos?

Pop!

I was hoping to post exciting news that I was already at a 3, and should be going to the hospital sometime this week! Well, look for that post another time, cause it ain't happenin'. I'm at a 1-2, and not a good 2 at that. I realize that these numbers mean nothing--I could jump to a 5 with several good contractions, but my midwife seems to think that this is going to be similar to Aubie's birth which was 1 hour and 4 minutes short of being a week late. : ( Oh dear. All I want to know is, how can I get any bigger and not explode? I have yet to see how it is possible. If you don't see a post in the next week or so, you'll know that it wasn't.
